Question

uploading credit card transactions chase and discover card

What is the best way to upload Chase credit card and Discover Card transactions.  I have 24 months worth that need entering. I currently use quickbooks desktop 2020 and manually enter all transactions but these cards have two years worth that havent been recorded.

I remember trying with the Chase card in the past (uploaded to a excel format I believe but I hit a snag).

Thanks for the any input or if someone can point me in the right direction.

Welcome to the Community forum, @belowradar.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), we have the Web connect (.QBO) files feature that you can use to download bulk credit card transactions from your bank’s website into QuickBooks. You can download the (.QBO) file and saved it on your computer. From there, you can import the transactions so they become available in your Bank Feeds.

If your bank offers Web Connect, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the Banking menu at the top.
  2. Select Bank Feeds.
  3. Click Import Web Connect Files.
  4. Choose the QBO file you saved, then click Open.
  5. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select:
  • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
  • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet. Learn how to create an account.

After that, click Continue and OK. Then, go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

You may also download your credit card transactions using the Direct Connect feature. Once you connect your account, QuickBooks automatically downloads the maximum number of transactions available from your bank.

For more information, see the Download Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop article.

Visit also our Banking page for more insights about managing your bank feeds in QBDT.

Keep me posted if there's anything else that you need, I'll be around to provide further assistance. Have a good one!

I have quickbooks desktop 2019 - evidently support is no longer available for it. Is an upgrade required in order to import OBO credit card transactions?

thanks

@jrm08

Yes. Importing .qbo files is part of the online service. You can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 to upgrade your version if required. Otherwise, you have to use a 3rd party tool to import CC Charges and CC Credits from XLS/CSV formats.

If your bank can only provide data in PDF format, utilize this app.
