I know what to do so you can void an IRS payment from an inactive bank account in QuickBooks Online, @MADascanbe.
If the payment is already processed, you'll have the option to void it. If not, you can delete it from the account. To do so, you must first activate it. Don't worry, you can just deactivate it afterward. I'll show you how:
To activate the account:
Click on Accounting from the left menu.
Select Chart of Accounts.
Click on the Settings icon and check the box for Include inactive.
Locate the inactive account, then click Make active.
It will now display the account as active. This time, let's locate the payment from the register and void/delete it.
Go back to the account list and locate the bank account you're working for.
Click on View register.
Locate the IRS payment and click on Edit.
Once done, select Void or Delete.
Click on Void or Delete to confirm.
That should do it! Now here's how you can deactivate the account back:
Go back to the Chart of Accounts.
Locate the account.
Click on the Action drop-down and select Make inactive.
Select Yes to confirm.
If you're all set and you'd like to review your accounts in QBO and ensure they match your bank statements, review this module for reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
