Question

We accept credit car payments. When it comes to matching that to a bank deposit, it is as if it's already match. But if I exclude it then I can't balance my bank statment

Hello, @davidpwilliams62. I'm here to help you process a credit card payment in QuickBooks Online.

Since you mentioned that the credit card payment matched with the bank deposit, this means QuickBooks links them together, so you won’t get duplicate transactions.

When a transaction is excluded, it is not recorded in any account registers or financial statements. Thus, this is the reason why you can’t balance your bank statement.

If you have excluded the transaction, you can go to the Excluded tab and select the checkbox for the transaction, then select Undo. This way, you can match it again from the For Review tab. To learn more about this, click here.

Here’s how to match it correctly:

  1. Find the CC transaction with the Match option in the Action column.
  2. Take note of the DateDescriptionPayee, and amount spent or received.
  3. Select the downloaded transaction to expand the view.
  4. Review and compare the Matching records found in QuickBooks.
  5. Select the link next to each match to get more details.
  6. To ensure this is the correct match, review the Deposit toPayment method, and Bank account fields on the forms for the existing transaction in QuickBooks.
  7. If this is the correct match, close the open transaction. Then, select Match.

You can proceed to Step 3 of this article to review matched or added transactions that are recorded into QuickBooks.

Once everything is set, you can then reconcile your account. This includes the complete reconciliation guide to make sure your books are accurate.

Stay in touch with me if you need more help with processing credit card or handling transactions in QuickBooks. I'm always right here to guide you through the process. Stay safe!
