What does the "QuickBooks Payments deposits weren't automatically recorded" alert mean?

When I log into QB, sometimes I see an alert that reads “Some QuickBooks Payments deposits weren't automatically recorded.” It includes a link to “Take Action.” When I click that link, a Deposit record opens and shows undeposited QuickBooks Payments. The thing is, if I just wait and come back later, the list of undeposited QuickBooks Payments changes. Sometimes, if I wait long enough, the alert goes away.

So my question is, what’s the point of this alert? If the “issue” eventually “fixes” itself, why do I need to take action?

If someone could provide me some insight into this “issue,” I’d appreciate it.

The QuickBooks alert message will show up if the system has encountered unexpected behavior that the payments and deposits will not instantly record to the program. It will appear to notify you, and be aware that possible payment entries will not flow directly into QBO.

Given that the list of payments that are reported by this alert will change, it's not a very helpful alert. I need this alert for any payments that QB has attempted to fully deposit but hasn't succeeded, but only after so many attempts by QB or after so many days. Basically, I don't know when I should ignore or actually pay attention to this alert. I could make a list of all the payments that are included in the alert but that's way too much work. I need some direction to know when QB will no longer attempt to deposit a payment. Those are the only payments that I want to record manually.

Some factors are considered, so QuickBooks will no longer automatically deposit a payment, @wreade78. Let me go into details about this.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) will stop trying to deposit a payment based on factors like the payment's status, such as Failed or Rejected, and your deposit settings. If a payment fails, QuickBooks won't retry it unless you make manual adjustments or changes. Setting up your deposit preferences will also determine if additional attempts are needed.

You can record each payment manually after turning off the automatic deposit in your Settings.

Here's how:

Go to the Gear icon ⚙️.
Select Account and settings.
Click on Payments in the left-hand menu.
Look for Deposit Accounts or similar options and turn off the automatic deposit feature.
