Question

What to do with a deposit that failed because it was connected to a closed bank account? The customer paid but I directed it to the wrong account?

Odd to enter a deposit before you get it.

Create an expense account called oops, then edit the deposit and use that account as the source account for the deposit. Get with the bank and find your money

Thank you Rustler for responding.

I guess to explain it better. I sent a lessee the link to pay by credit card (payment link); but that link was still pointing funds to the old, closed account. I received notification that the deposit failed. Where do I go from here?

Hi there, @rstinson-1vision.

I'll share some information on how to handle a failed bank transfer.

First, let's make sure to figure out where the failed payment is in QuickBooks.

  1. Select + New.
  2. Select Bank deposit or Record bank deposit.
  3. Review the QuickBooks Payments section.
  4. Look for the payment on the list. If you see it, it isn't deposited yet. If you don't, it is deposited.

Second, create a service item to track a rejected bank transfer.

  1. Go to Gear ⚙ and then select Products and Services.
  2. Select New and then Service.
  3. Enter "Rejected bank transfer" for the name.
  4. Enter "Bank transfer payment received rejected by the bank" for the description.
  5. If the bank deposit is already deposited, select the bank account you deposited into for the Income account. Or if you haven't made the bank deposit yet, select Undeposited funds for the Income account.
  6. Select Save and close.

Then follow Step 3: Create a new invoice through this article: Handle a rejected or failed bank transfer payment.

Also, I'd recommend reaching our Payments Support team so that they can assist you to update your bank account and receive payments from your customers.

Additionally, I encourage you to review some of our commonly asked Payments questions for insightful information.
