when categorizing transactions from my bank, the memo field doesn't match the description field found on my bank records.

when categorizing transactions from my bank, the memo field doesn't match the description field found on my bank records. it would be helpful if quickbooks would pull in the same information that my bank displays on their screen. the memo field is missing critical information that would help in categorizing the transaction.

Thank you for taking the time to post about the memo of your downloaded transactions. I'll help you with this.

 

The bank description is indeed helpful in identifying the transactions. The good news is QuickBooks has an option to copy bank details to the memo field. You can enable this before adding your transactions to your register, and you can undo and re-add the already added ones to reflect the details.

 

  1. Click the Gear icon above the list of transactions on the Banking page.
  2. Tick the Copy bank detail to memo box.

 

After ensuring you have all your transactions, you may reconcile your bank register.
