Question

When doing a manual import of an AMEX credit card account, all the debits and credits were switched. How do I fix this for hundreds of transactions that came in via csv?

Hi, osusannahs1. I can help you import your AMEX bank transactions to QuickBooks Online (QBO) with the correct debit and credit information.

The transactions that appear on the Banking page depend on your file format. When preparing your CSV file for import, please make sure to place all payment entries (expenses) in the Credit column and deposits (income) in the Debit section.

To fix the error you're getting, you can exclude the hundreds of transactions by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click on Banking at the left pane, then go to the Banking page.
  3. Select your account, then go to the For Review section.
  4. Mark all the transactions that need to be corrected.
  5. Tap on Exclude to proceed.

Once done, prepare your file again using the correct format. You can either use the three or four-column format. I'm adding this screenshot as your visual reference.

On top of that, you may review the resources from this link to learn more about the supported formats for CSV upload: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

When the file is ready, manually import them into our system. Then, review the transactions.

To simplify the process, you may connect your bank to QuickBooks. This way, your transactions will be downloaded automatically.
