Question

When I linked my credit card account, my two business cards were separated into two accounts rather than one. My bank has them under one joint account. Can I fix this?

Having them separated makes it difficult to reconcile my credit card account since my bank combines both cards into one account. The starting balance and ending balance on my statements no longer match. Now my payments only apply to one card which throws off the balance as well.

Hello, @lauren-kaleidosc. I can help you combine two credit cards under one accounts.

Yes, you can merge two business cards under one account. Please ensure that it's necessary, as you're unable to undo it later on.

Set up the parent and subaccounts if you have a credit card with several subaccounts. You can refer to this article to learn more about the process: About bank or credit card subaccount setup.

After you successfully merge them, you can reconcile the other account. Just make sure to review your account in QuickBooks to make sure they match your real-life bank and credit card statements.

Here's how:

  1. Hover your mouse to the Accounting menu and Choose Chart of Accounts then click Reconcile.
  2. If it's your first time reconciling click Get Started first and then Let's do it.
  3. From the Account dropdown menu, select the account you want to reconcile.
  4. Check the Last statement ending date.
  5. Review the Beginning balance
  6. Enter the Ending balance and Ending date.
  7. Then select Start reconciling.

For more details about the reconciliation workflow, you can check out this article: Reconcile Hub.

Also, if you have duplicate accounts, customers, or vendors, you can merge them, you can check out this article: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.
