Question

When updating all of the previous transactions in my payroll settings, it says too many transactions but I can only adjust the start date with no end date?

I was looking at some staffing numbers the past couple of months so I went ahead and update the payroll settings so that the employees are in the right spots (doctors vs staff) and the accounts are consistent again instead of having duplicates. I am having trouble updating all of the previous transactions though. It lets me go back to Sept 1st, however, when trying to go any further back it says too many transactions. It says to change the start and end date, however, I can only adjust the start date with no option to adjust end date.

Hello there, vencilj.

Let's update your existing transactions and ensure your data remains accurate in QuickBooks.

First, can you share and verify if your book is already closed or not? A closed book can be the reason why you received that error message and cannot update your existing transactions.

Updating previous transactions will only work for non-bank accounts. For bank accounts, we're unable to update them. No worries, we can handle them using journal entries. In doing this task, I'd highly suggest consulting your accountant to ensure your book will not mess up. We can visit this article for further guidance: Learn how to record journal entries in QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, if you haven't closed your book yet to prevent changes to past transactions, I recommend performing the steps below to isolate this unusual behavior.

We can use any of these keyboard shortcuts to open a private/incognito window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + N

If you can do it successfully, we'll need to clear your browser's cache. If it persists, let's use other supported web browsers in QuickBooks.

And, yes, the system will only let us change the start date. QuickBooks handles your data up to the recent transactions. If we want to make further changes to the period or end date. We can reach out to our Payroll Support Team by going to the Help icon> Contact us. They can assist your further with this.
