Question

When working on unreviewed transactions, as soon as I select business or personal, it is automatically assigning an (incorrect) category and disappearing. Anyone else?

The seems like a glitch. It has never happened this way before and I've been on here for years. Because of this issue, I now have to go back into ALL of my transactions, find the one I was just trying to work on and assign it the correct category. This is costing me some serious time and frustration and no response from quickbooks.

That shouldn't have happened, @ittlefishplace. I'll be sure to help you get passed this issue, and will never happen again.

It could be that your regular browser is full of temporary internet files that's why you encounter this unexpected behavior.

As our initial troubleshooting steps, let's use an incognito or a private window to determine browser-related problems. Use these keyboard shortcut keys below to access according to your preferred browser:

  • Google Chrome, press CTRL+ Shift+N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press CTRL+Shift+P
  • Internet Explorer: Press CTRL+Shift+P
  • Safari: press Command+Shift+N

Check if you can categorize your unreviewed transactions without any problem. If that works, start troubleshooting by clearing the cache in your main browser. Otherwise, use another supported, and updated browser.

For future reference, check out this article to learn more about the Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Feel free to message me again if you have additional concerns about categorizing your income and expenses in QBSE. Take care!

Unfortunately that did not work. I've cleared my browser history, empty cache and tried the shortcut provided for Safari and it still disappears as soon as I assign it the person or business.

I am also experiencing this issue. It seemed to have happened out of nowhere. My current workaround is to just use the self-employed app. Although I do prefer to work on my laptop when I have the time at home. It's frustrating. Any kind of update?

I have this same issue.  It's when you have it filtered to "unreviewed".  For whatever reason, there's no delay in removing it from the filter.  I'd like just 20-30 seconds so I can add appropriate tags and categorize properly.  If you work within "all transactions", you won't have the issue, but that's also frustrating because you have to sort through all of the transactions that have already been sorted.

Thank you for acknowledging that! Yes, you're having the same issue as me. You can't sort by only "unreviewed" because if you do, they disappear as soon as you choose business or personal. You wouldn't believe how long I argued with quickbooks about this. One person told me it was just me/user error. One told me "it's always been that way". The multiple bogus responses I got back were wild and I can't believe it's still an issue. Now we have to look at ALL of the transactions and waste our time finding the unreviewed ones in the mix, just to get them done. So frustrating....
