I am importing a csv file. The descriptions look correct when I select which transactions to import. Then in the bank transactions list, the words are just random letters.

Hi there, ccliff06.

I've got methods to ensure you can import your bank or credit card transactions correctly in QuickBooks Online efficiently.

First off, may I know which specific bank you are using so that I can check to see if we received the same issue? I thank you for providing additional information so I can share accurate details.

For now, please note that unusual behavior when importing entries is usually caused by an incorrectly formatted file. With this, I recommend reviewing your file or creating a new one and making sure to use the appropriate CSV format before uploading your data to QuickBooks. Before doing this, you'll need to exclude those entries already imported into the program to avoid duplicate data.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu, then select the Bank transactions section.
  2. Choose the For Review tab.
  3. Select the checkbox of the transactions to exclude.
  4. Select Exclude.

Once done, you can check out this article to learn more about CSV formats and how to correctly organize them:  Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Once everything is in shape, you can now re-import the transactions.

In case you need steps on how to match imported entries with ones you already entered in the program, you can read this article: Match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to add commend below and add additional details or if you still have other concerns related to managing entries in QBO. I'm always here to help you further,ccliff06. Take care.

@ccliff06

You can use the trial version of csv2qbo to isolate the problem.
