Online version is simple:

QBO file works but it's nice to edit a csv file especially the description first before importing to QuickBooks. I have the desktop version do I need to change to the online version?

I got to tell you this is very frustrating not being able to importing a bank csv file..

I wish I could make it better, @edwood007.

As of the moment, there isn't an option to upload a CSV file of your bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

In the meantime, let's consider uploading them using a web connect file. By doing so, you can easily map your transactions concerning the system requirements in QuickBooks Desktop.

On that same page, here's an article you can read to learn more about uploading your bank transactions: Import Web Connect (.qbo) files.

But don't worry, I'll submit your request to our product developer so they may include the ability to import bank transactions with CSV files in the future improvements.

In the same manner, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Banking for QuickBooks Desktop.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

Hi @JonpriL ,

Thank you for the reply. I totally understand the QBO file  process the issue with that is you are not able to edit the name or description to simplify it if I can run it into Excel tighten up the descriptions then import into qb it would be sooo much easier.  Honestly its easier for me to hand enter 128 transactions than to do the qbo file import.

For example my QBO file has a ton of names like this and I can easily take out the "ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL" portion of the name and import to Quickbooks.

ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL ADP Tax
ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL ADP PAY-BY-PAY
ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL ADP WAGE PAY
ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL AUTHNET GATEWAY
ELECTRONIC WITHDRAWAL ADP PAYROLL FEES

and make it look like this, besides the fact that you can't see the right portion of a long name in qb import of a qbo file:

ADP Tax
ADP PAY-BY-PAY
ADP WAGE PAY
AUTHNET GATEWAY
ADP PAYROLL FEES

and the memo portion is worse it looks like this!:

Download from usbank.com. 9142
Download from usbank.com. Square Inc
Download from usbank.com. Square Inc
Download from usbank.com. 1823
Download from usbank.com. CYBERSRC
Download from usbank.com. AUTHNET GATEWAY
Download from usbank.com. 1823
Download from usbank.com. ADP Tax
Download from usbank.com. ADP PAY-BY-PAY
Download from usbank.com. ADP WAGE PAY
Download from usbank.com. AUTHNET GATEWAY
Download from usbank.com. ADP PAYROLL FEES

where as I would remove in Excel "Download from usbank.com".

There are post of this issue back to 2018 with frustrated users as myself so I don't think QB has the intentions of fixing this anytime soon.  So do  scrap the desktop version and go to the online version of QB?  I just need to move on vs spending hours figuring this out.

Thanks,

Ed
