You've come to the right place, Jane Brightwell.

I've just got the instructions you'll need to record credit card payments in QuickBooks Online. The Pay down a credit card is the main way to record your credit card payments in QBO:

  1. Click the + New button.
  2. Under Money Out (if you’re in Business view), or Other (if you’re in Accountant view), select Pay down credit card.
  3. Select the credit card you made the payment to.
  4. Enter the payment amount and the date of the payment.
  5. Select the bank account you paid the credit card with.
  6. If you made a payment with a cheque, select I made a payment with a cheque. In the Cheque no. field, enter the cheque number, or if you paid electronically, enter the EFT number.
  7. Select Save and Close.

Since you've mentioned that you've write a check, you'll have to create a transfer. Here's how:

  1. Select + New and choose Transfer.
  2. From the Transfer Funds From ▼ drop-down menu, select the bank account the credit card was paid from.
  3. From the Transfer Funds To ▼ drop-down menu, select the credit card that the payment went to.
  4. In the Transfer Amount field, enter the amount of the payment.
  5. Select Save and close.
