Good morning: August 2022 client statement ending balance is equal, August reconciles. I enter Sept bank balance and tick off transactions but cleared bal did not change

In August statement ending balance equalled cleared balance. After ticking off September transactions and entering Sept balance the cleared balance did not change. I tried ticking them off again and tried refresh button. How do I fix? Thanks

Thanks for providing details about your concern. To fix the issue about the balance, the first thing we need to do is make sure that the opening balance is correct. Then, check the beginning balance of the account. 

 

After that, let's also double-check that the account you're reconciling for the month is correct. Here's how:

 

  1. In your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account, go to Bookkeeping menu.
  2. Next, select the Reconcile option. 
  3. Then, review the account you selected in the Account dropdown menu.

 

Once verified that it is the right one, ensure to match and categorise all of the downloaded entries before reconciling if this is connected to the online banking to get the correct beginning balance.

 

Lastly, check your discrepancy reports to see any actions made with the transactions of that account that might affect the beginning balance. Let me guide you on how:

 

  1. On the Reconciliation page, select the We can help you fix it link to open the discrepancy report.
  2. Next, review the report to decide if and how to make edits.
  3. Before performing a change, reach out to whoever made the action - they may be intentional.
  4. When everything is fine, review each transaction on the report one at a time:
  5. Then, click View to see the history of changes to the transaction.
  6. After that, select the Change Type column. This tells you what changed.
  7. Make edits based on this message.

When done, you can now start reconciling again.
