The balance on your credit card statement and in QuickBooks may not always match, even after reconciliation.

The Bank balance refers to the amount of money in your bank account based on the latest information from your institution. While the QuickBooks balance is the total of all bank transactions added or matched in QuickBooks.

Thus, the following are the factors why balances don't match:

  • Edited/Deleted transactions
  • Credit card (liability) account
  • Duplicate transactions
  • New transactions for a connected bank account
  • Outstanding/pending transactions

Depending on the reason for the discrepancy, there are different approaches to resolve it. Refer to this resource to find relevant information for your situation and follow the recommendations given: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

After reconciling your account, you can generate a reconciliation report for that session to confirm the accuracy of your financial records by comparing them with your bank statements.
