Hello, Everyone

I'm new to Quick Books and I have a customer who wants me to except more money than I billed him for and then have me forward the extra to another person sounds like a "Scam" to me has anyone else had this happen to them???

Thank You, Joey Baker

    @Joey-B

    Hi there, Joey.

    Unfortunately, there are schemes that involve a customer overpaying an invoice and requesting the excess funds be sent to them or someone else. What often happens is that the check or payment will bounce after the extra funds have been sent to the customer/other person.

    These schemes can have some variance and can often be quite sophisticated. I've always found these especially troubling since they often target new businesses, which can often ill afford such losses.

    For some additional information on this, I recommend the following link: How to Prevent Fraud in Your Business. The article has a section on overpaying invoices and what to do as a business owner.

    There was also a thread a few weeks ago by @Chris_S  with a similar situation: Over payment scam. This user had a customer request to overpay, which they determined to be an attempt to deceive them and take their funds. I think it's great that both of you shared these stories since they can help to make other businesses aware of these scenarios.

    Lastly, since you referenced you're new to QuickBooks, I want to ensure you're getting the most out of the software. I'm including some resources designed to help a user get acclimated to the program:
