Destructive Leadership Myths

Welcome back to the Business Discussion board! Today I'm stopping by to share an article from inc.com that offers an interesting view on several destructive leadership myths to avoid as a small business owner and/or boss.

Leaders have all the answers
"No leader--no matter how talented, how experienced, or how knowledgeable--has all the answers. It's just not possible. But what the best leaders are is smart and they are constant learners."

Leaders are born, not made

Leadership should never be shared

When you encourage others on your team and in your organization to take a leadership role, not only will they be more engaged in their jobs, but they'll also gain the experience they need to progress in their careers--making them more valuable to the organization."

Leaders don't make mistakes
"Everyone makes a mistake every now and then, including even the very best, most accomplished leaders. However, the best leaders take personal accountability for their mistakes--they don't blame others--and they learn valuable lessons from them."

Leaders must never show emotion or vulnerability
"Leaders are people, and they should show emotion and vulnerability--these are strengths not weaknesses."
