Hiring Personality Tests

Happy Happy Friday, and thanks for checking in with us here in the Business Discussion. Before you clock out today, I have one question for you. When hiring new employees, what personality test do you use to determine a competent candidate? For those businesses that do not use a personality test, it is a great tool to understand better how your potential employee character connects with your company culture. USchambers showed us eight personality tests, and each's advantages. Today, I would like to share my top four favorites from the list. So, let's get into it!

The Myers-Brigg Type Incidtor
This test is grouped into eight categories: extraversion vs. introversion, intuition vs. sensing, thinking vs. feeling, and judging vs. perceiving, to determine which inclinations they attach to. These tests are usually recommended for managers who want to analyze how newcomers would work in group settings. In recent times, working in teams has generated more development and productivity ideas for businesses than in an individualistic environment so this test would be beneficial in that sense.

The DiSC Behavior Inventory
This is one of the earliest forms of personality tests and can be traced throughout history. This is unique to managers who don't rely on scores and a person's success to identify a hire's personality. If you don't know, DiSC is an acronym. The D stands for dominance, I for Influence, S for steadiness, and C for conscientiousness. These pillars are what the test is based on.

The SHL Occupational Personality Questionnaire
Although this test contains 104 questions, it reveals the candidate's strengths and weaknesses and compares them with other candidates scoring. The primary categories are relationships with people, thinking style, feelings, and emotions. From here, the applicant gets the opportunity to specify which characteristic matches them.

The Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI)
This test tells managers how applicants will react or act in certain conditions. I would say this is very important to know in any line of business, especially when quick decisions need to be made or how one handles the pressure. This entails approximately 206 true and false questions assessing traits such as ambition, stress tolerance, sales potential, interpersonal sensitivity, and sociability, to name a few. With this test, you can compare it with other candidates to recognize the best of the best.

The article discussed many more like the Athena assessment, Berke assessment, The Caliper Profile, and the Predictive Index personality test. I encourage you to take a look at and share the ones you like as well!
