If you could ask one burning question about employees, what would it be?

My own question is "how do we get employees to care as much about our company as we do?"

As cheesy as it sounds, and maybe I never found an organization that meant it when they said it. But . . .

How can we help you accomplish your goals?

I believe that business, is a people industry, and a rising tide lifts all ships.

I love that @Adam_Fenner. Take care of your people and they will take care of you. What are some ways that you have helped them accomplish their goals?

@LeslieBarber, putting me on the spot.

One of the standard questions I try to find out, organically through conversation is what their goals are. And find out what if any obstacles are holding them back from accomplishing those. Sometimes all it takes is to spend some time talking through it, and then following up to see if any action was taken.

Using this approach with one of my clients, I'm helping the ownership develop an internal training program to develop their people in house. It is coming from the business owners need for specific skills and certifications, but also because we want to retain the right people, and giving them a path upward, to responsibility, and higher pay.

One of the most challenging jobs I ever had was managing people. So I'd love to know, how do you manage employees efficiently, effectively and sanely. :smileyhappy:
