Myth Busting
Hello, Community! Lovely to have you here in the Business Discussion space. I think we've all heard rumors that could also be considered myths about entrepreneurship. Today I'd like to take a minute to share an article that was posted on the QuickBooks Resource Center that busts some of these notions you may have heard over the years.
Entrepreneurs Are Giant Risk Takers
Busted! This one took me a sec. I had to go back and make sure I read it correctly. I did however read that to some people, quitting your day job, and striking up your own business, with no steady income in the beginning isn't the biggest risk you can take! It's simply viewed as uncharted territory.
Entrepreneurs Are Just Tired of Working for Someone Else
Also not entirely true. While the initial thought of starting their own business may have come from discontent, one thing is for sure. Entrepreneurs all have one universal trait that truly drives them: a passion for their pursuit. Some call it a “fire in the belly,” and others call it a “driving need.” This is what encourages entrepreneurs to go out on their own and not a dislike for authority.
Men Are Better Entrepreneurs Than Women
Well I'm pleased to report I've never heard of this myth but it is in fact busted! Now there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of male entrepreneurs compared to those that are female, but to say men are just better at business ownership is definitely not the case.
Entrepreneurs Are All-In From Day One
False! I have to admit, the word entrepreneurship screams quitting the 9-5 and immediately throwing all of their life savings into their new business. But the good news is you can still work your "normal" job while your side-gig turns into your dream career!
Entrepreneurs Are Lucky
I like how the writer puts it here, "Luck is chance, but you can’t get a chance without working for it. In this respect, luck begins with just good, old-fashioned hard work."
What do you think - have you heard these or any other myths about entrepreneurs? Did you overcome them yourself? Check out the link above for the full article. Until next time!
