A good way to figure out if you’re ready to bring on an employee is to answer some probing questions. Rhonda suggests you sit down and have a heart-to-heart chat with yourself to find answers to the following:

1. Identify the professional skills you don't have.

2. What would my business look like if I had those skills?

3. How much faster would those skills helps me grow my business?

4. What am I willing to spend to do the things I can’t do alone?

Super helpful tips! I just took on my first independent contractor and this list is helping me come up with specific tasks for her to work on daily based on her strengths and then I can focus on my strengths. :smileyhappy:

@Adam_Fenner and @jessbru99568 -- Thanks goes to our awesome content contributor, @WillowOlder and her Relationships 101: Employees on Your Mind? Some Hints Before You Hire article for the list.

I'm wondering -- have either of you gone through the hiring process? What might you add to this list? Or do you have any stories that might help others who are hiring for the first time? I'd love for you to share :-)

I've done the admin piece of hiring and firing. Not a decision maker yet. I will say my clients who do it right, hire slow and fire fast.
