Let’s get to know her a little better and hear what she has to say! 😃

How long have you been a Community Care Expert for?
I’ve been a Community Care Expert for just a few days short of 5 years. November 14th is my Community anniversary, and I got started back in 2017.
What do you love most about your role?
I love lending a hand when people are faced with tricky situations and helping them get back to work. I also really like the aspect of getting to talk with people from all over the US, and even some from around the globe.
What is your favorite QuickBooks Tip or Trick that you would want others to know?
This may sound a bit basic, but my favorite troubleshooting trick is clearing the browser cache. If you notice a missing button, a delay, or any other performance issue in QuickBooks, clearing the cache is your go-to fix.
What’s one skill you wish you could learn?
To play the piano!
What is the best piece of advice ever given to you?
"Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end."

Thanks so much for all you do for our customers, Morgan! 👏

Morgan,

We are a HOA (350 homeowners) managed by volunteers and our Treasurer uses QuickBooks Desktop 2017 on a laptop without internet access.  We have not had any issues.  The laptop is getting long in the tooth and we have purchased a new computer.

The thought was originally to upgrade both the laptop and the software at the same time.  However with the push by Intuit to go on-line and the fact that we can not purchase a Desktop 2024, our question is "Should we install 2017 on the new computer and continue as we are?".

Security updates are of no importance as we are not connected to the internet.  We don't bank thru the software or send invoices.

     Your advice is appreciated,

Kevin J Welsh

Let us share some information about installing your QuickBooks Desktop 2017 on the new computer, KJW_85614.

Given your situation, several factors must be considered when deciding whether to install QuickBooks Desktop 2017 on the new computer. If your primary concern is continuity and you have no dependencies on online features or updates, installing it on your new computer could be a practical solution. This approach maintains your workflow with minimal disruption since you are not connected to the internet and don't rely on online banking or sending invoices.

You can click this link to start downloading your software. After that, you have to prepare some detailed mentions below for the installation:

Then, you can now install it on your new computer:

  1. Open the file QuickBooks.exe.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions. Accept the software license agreement and then select Next.
  3. Enter your product and license numbers and click Next.

You can check out these handy articles on how you can manage installation:

While staying with 2017 might be convenient now, consider future-proofing your setup. At some point, the 2017 version may encounter compatibility issues with new hardware or operating systems. Without Internet connectivity, manual transfers of backups and data could become cumbersome over time. Evaluate whether this is a short-term fix or if it might invite challenges down the road.

Just in case you need to migrate to QuickBooks Online (QBO) version in the future, you can check out this article for more details: Move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
