Can I enter a service that is split between two categories ie Sales and Disbursements. It is a service we supply for a fixed cost that covers both?

Hello there, office organisers.

 

QuickBooks allows us to enter one category for each item. However, you can make the other one as a sub-category to assign them to the service you've created. 

 

First is to make the Disbursements as a sub-category to the Sales or vice versa. Here's how:

 

  1. Within the Product and Services, click the More drop-down menu.
  2. Select Manage Categories.
  3. Then, select the category you want to make as a sub-category.
  4. Tick the Is a sub-category.
  5. Choose the main category for this. Once done, click Save.


 

Create a service and make sure to select the sub-category to display it with the main one in the field.

 

However, if you've set up Sales and Disbursements as accounts in the Chart of Accounts, you can create two separate items and assign these accounts. You may want to check these articles for additional reference:
