Question

In QB online, expenses can be set as billable to client, inc %age markup. With exps in the QB App they can be allocated to client/job but NOT billable or markup. Why not?

It makes it really hard as you then have to remember to click billable/markup through QB online otherwise they don't appear on client invoice!

I can see the convenience of creating expenses marked as billable in your QuickBooks Online App, lizhoughton. I'll provide information when entering these transactions into your account.

In QuickBooks, we can turn on billable expense tracking from your account's settings to automatically mark your items as billable including the percentage markup.

However, in the QuickBooks Online app, manually enabling the billable expenses or markup when creating a transaction is the current process in the program and is working as designed.

In the meantime, you may want to open your QuickBooks account through the web browser available on your mobile device. This way, you can utilize the feature seamlessly when recording your expenses.

For now, you can submit a feature request from the QBO App to our product engineers so they can include this ability in our future product enhancements. To do this:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestions and click Next to submit them.

Furthermore, I'll include this reference to guide you in keeping track of your business expenses and other financial workflows: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

If there's anything else you require additional assistance managing expenses in your account, just leave the message in the comments below. Keep safe and have a good one!
