Just a couple of things to ask information on for those who may know.

1. I have QB Self Employed, Does this mean I can use QB Online also?
2. On QB Online I have added my Paypal and asked it to pull all data from the beginning of last year. However, it is only pulling the data from this year. Any ideas?
3. Can I migrate my data from QB Self Employed to Online?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Thank you for your questions, Alan. We’re glad to have you as a new user, and I’m here to help clarify your inquiries regarding QuickBooks. Let’s address each of your questions step by step.

QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) are distinct products designed for different purposes. While you can use both, they do not directly integrate. If you find that QBO suits your needs better, you may consider transitioning to it, but you will need to manage your subscriptions separately.

If you’ve connected PayPal to QBO but it’s only pulling data from this year, it may be due to the settings in your PayPal integration. Ensure that you have configured it to pull historical data correctly. Sometimes, it might also depend on the permissions set within your PayPal account. If the issue persists, I recommend checking the integration settings or contacting support for further assistance.

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to migrate data from QBSE to QBO. These platforms are designed differently, and if you wish to switch from QBSE to QBO, you will need to cancel your QBSE subscription and sign up for QBO separately. After that, you can export your transactions into QBO or use third-party tools for assistance.

First, let's download your transactions in a CSV file and upload them into QuickBooks Online. It's up to you if you're going to export everything from QBSE for your records.

Here's how to export transactions that have been added to QuickBooks:

  1. Go to Transactions.
  2. You can choose the transactions you need to export by using the TypeAccount and Tax Year filters.
  3. Once you've selected what you need, select the Download icon which is next to the filters. Refer to the screenshot below.

If you want to export miles and taxes, see this article that details the process: Export data out of QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Once done, sign up for QuickBooks Online. Now you're ready to move your data into QBO.

If you plan to connect the same bank and credit card accounts you used in QuickBooks Self-Employed, you don't need to move any transactions. Instead, follow the steps to connect your accounts. If you don't plan to connect the same accounts, upload your CSV file into QuickBooks Online.

When everything is set, let's begin categorising the transactions.

I hope this information helps clarify your questions! If you need further assistance or have any additional queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you!
