Question

On the bank feed there is a customer refund paid in November. How do I match this payment off against the credit note previously created in the customers account?

I'm delighted to have you here, @fr4.

Let me help you match your payments from your banking tab to the customer's credit note created in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When using the Find Match option on the Banking page, you'll only see the invoice, not the credit note. To match the payment transaction to the recently created credit note, you'll need to either apply it on a different invoice:

  1. Go to the + New menu, then select Receive payment.
  2. Choose the customer in question, then the credit note and the invoice.
  3. Tick the box of another pending invoice where you want to apply the credit note
  4. Tap Save and close.

Or, use it on a new invoice:

  1. Move to the + New menu, then select Invoice.
  2. Proceed with creating the invoice, then press Save.
  3. Click the Receive payment button.
  4. Tick the box for the credit note in question, then hit Save and close.

Moreover, learn to categorise and match your transactions to add them to the correct category. Then, reconcile your account to ensure this is balanced.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can assist you with about matching transactions. I'm just a few clicks away. Have a good one!
