Hi 

I just purchased a used version of the book Computer Accounting with Quickbooks 2018. No surprise it has  no Product Number Code Card and thus no License.  

 

My question first question  is:  If I purchase a Quickbooks Desktop version for myself , (as I really intent to  start a LLC bookkeeping business anytime soon )  would i still be able to use the sample files that the book suggests ? Is it possible to upload those sample files in my brand new Quickbooks Desktop version so that  I can start to practice from there  , using the USED book and its instructions , 

 

Second question :  Does any desktop version come with pre-loaded sample company file also so you can test and learn  with it as I can not afford to purchase a new book for a dear price and get only 5 months license. I rather by the desktop version one year and keep it for myself  longer and manage to lear it on my own.


Third : Not sure if the sample files are free to download or do they need the  code  from a brand new book to be used? 

 

The last but not the least : If I want to start a  bookkeeping business LLC , what would be your recommendation  as what would be the best desktop version to use ?

Or would you suggest going to the online version?

I am thinking to offer my service to small businesses max 5-10 employees and I am more focus in service businesses 

 

I definitely want to be able to handle both online and desktop version

You should have 2 QB versions for your practice:

1. QB Desktop Premier Accountant to serve QB Desktop clients. You may purchase a one time license thru a partner/reseller. As for Desktop ProAdvisor, you may purchase annual subscription with a lower price.

2. QB Online Accountant to serve QB Online clients. You may register it for free.

 

You may find the sample files in QB Desktop and sample data in QB Online account for your reference.

    May I kindly ask you what is the difference between QB desktop premier accountant and QB desktop pro advisor please?

    No surprise on the lack of codes. even if they were there it is against the EULA to sell the used software license on the open market. Even if you had it in your possession, you would be unable to register it into your name.  Very rarely will QB transfer a license.

     

    Sample files are included with every version, even desktop. And there is no extra charge.

     

    If you are going to "do" the books for others you can get by with just a standard desktop version as long as your clients do not need access. The accountant version, however, allows you to have two companies open at the same time and you can work on special accountant copies provided by your clients that have their own QB desktop company file. The same sample company is included in the accountant version.  It costs more, and you must buy a new version each year and keep the old ones installed - you will have clients with various year versions submitting files for tax prep
