I understand that you're frustrated with the situation regarding your Desktop Pro 2023 subscription renewal fee, @RMRICH. Don't worry, I'll share some information about the annual subscription of your QuickBooks version and get you going.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2023 is offered as an annual subscription, and prices start at $549.99 per year for one user. However, an email was sent to our accounting professionals, announcing upcoming pricing changes for QuickBooks Desktop products and services. For your version, the new annual price is $649. You can visit this page for the details: QuickBooks Desktop pricing.

Moreover, it's possible that your subscription has already expired which is why it was being disabled. With that, I suggest logging into your CAMPs account through a web browser so you can review any charges made, update your billing information, and renew your subscription. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to camps.intuit.com
  2. Sign in with your Intuit Account info. This could be different from what you use to sign in to your company file.
  3. If you see multiple products to choose from, select QuickBooks Desktop to go to CAMPs.

For additional information, check out this link: What is CAMPs and how do I use it?

We have your back if you need additional help in using QuickBooks Desktop.

@RMRICH

If you don't mind to use the trial version of QB Desktop 2023, you can use it for good if required.

I am in agreement with RMRICH.  The annual subscription fee is ridiculous to those of us who have used Desktop for many years.  Our Accountant does not want us to use the online QB service.  QB makes it very hard to stick with the online version.  I would definitely use a different company/product if I could.

Do you have QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus for single user?

Monitoring this thread - 25 plus years of using QB desktop and I've had enough.  Looking for alternatives, I don't see this crappy situation changing.

   Yes, I've been using QB Desktop since 2001, always buying the new version every 3 years or so, it was a reasonable price to pay to help this non-accountant keep track of everything.  Now the price is effectively more than tripled.  And I'm sure you've noticed that none of the QB employees contributing to this thread have tried to justify the huge price increase, because there is no justification, other than profit.    This forced movement to online subscription service is not in our best interests.   Please post to this thread what alternatives anyone may find.

QB Online or other cloud-based accounting applications. Developers only offer ERP class products nowadays if you still prefer to keep your company files in-house.

I am in total agreement with most users here.  Quickbooks has decided to treat their customers of many years with total disregard.  These payroll and subscription renewal fees have become absolutely prohibitive for the average small business. In the past the sales model was to provide product enhancements which would encourage you to upgrade product.  That coupled with reasonable annual fees for the payroll module is what has led to them being the industry leader of this service with small businesses.  A few years ago that changed and minimal if any significant changes were made to the software including not even fixing the dismal slow performance, the poor formatting of the reports , poor formatting of the date column on the register screen.... I could go on.   Since no one would willing upgrade to the newest versions they switched to a subscription based model forcing users to upgrade or your software became unusable.  About the same time they started implementing additional fees per employee as if it somehow cost more to calculate the payroll for more employees.  If you are not providing direct deposit then there is little or no additional expense in calculating the payroll.  Intuit knows full well that they have you hostage.  They waited for all competitors to essentially drop out of the market then they started ramping up the charges.  Finally, no one wants to be a part of your Cloud where your data is easily hacked. Just ask T-Mobile, Delta Dental, MoveIt, Chick-fil-A, and many others about their substantial data breaches.  No thanks!  Please stop trying to force all users online. Shame on intuit for treating their long term customers this way!

I am a one man C-Corp. I have been using QuickBooks Desktop for 20 years. My cost just a few years ago was about $250/year. Last year it was $550, which was a significant increase, and this year it was almost $700. So I cancelled. And yes, I feel disregarded by Intuit. I have been a loyal customer for two decades but that means jack to Intuit. Screw them, I'm out.

What system did you go to?? This is outrageous......

January 18, 2024

Absolute insanity for prices. I only use (was using) Qb Desktop for personal use, not business. This should be a one-time SOFTWARE cost not a BS subscription. I cancelled immediately when I had to pay that rapacious amount. I use an older Desktop version completely offline so QB can't f**k with me. Everyone should bail on QB and find different software.

Our company is very disappointed with Quickbooks!  We have been using the Desktop version since 2008 and have and been very happy with it - until last year when they decided to add a yearly subscription!!!  It is NOT cost effective as they claim and is an added strain to our finances!!!!!!!  We went round and round with a few reps last year and of course got nowhere.  Since we are forced to go this route, why doesn't QB make the yearly fee $100 a user and when a company decides to upgrade to the current version, then charge the fee for upgrade??  This would be more affordable to us smaller businesses who cannot absorb these outrages fees like the bigger ones.  It's all about the money, and not satisfying the customer!!

@cecltd

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? QB Desktop 2021 with a non subscription license or QB Desktop Plus version?

April 5, 2024

QB Desktop Pro Plus 2021

July 3, 2024

The new annual charge this year for the desktop version with no payroll for one user was $655.49. I called to ask why the huge increase, and the custom service rep. just told me that is what it was. I was told I could cancel and then upload the new online version that was being offered for $249. If I were to do that I would have to start over with a new license number. I didn't do it for I was afraid that the business information wouldn't get transferred over. The fact that a new user can pay $249 but a loyal user has to pay more than twice as much, doesn't seem right.

@Carr

$249 for a new QB Desktop license or a new QB Online account?

February 26, 2025

There's a simple explanation. These people, Intuit, are thieves and among the greediest of the greedy in this country. I stopped using their payroll and invoicing several years ago when they started with this "subscription" crap. There are only two of us, we use an old Desktop version, and we're NOT going to pay these thieves any more money. There are plenty of other ways to create our invoices and the guidelines on what to withhold for payroll are easily found. We also have found another provider to do 940, 941, W-2, W-3, and many other forms that we used to do in QB. It's at tax1099(dot)pro and their user interface is really good.
