Question

A payroll tax payment came out of the wrong account on quickbooks. Would I have to make journal adjustments to fix since I probably can't change/delete it?

Hi hello@nudsugarin,

It's a pleasure to see you in Community.  Welcome!  QuickBooks Online Payroll enables you to edit the associated accounts to ensure a positive outcome in your books.  I'd be glad to assist!

Based on the information you've provided, I suggest taking a look at the payroll mapping.  This will ensure the transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounts automatically.  Here's how;

1. Open your Settings ⚙ in the top right of your QuickBooks Online dashboard

2. Select Payroll Settings

3. Click on the Edit ✎ on the right of the Accounting section

4. Scroll down to Tax Liability Accounts and hit the Edit ✎

5. Select the desired account from the ▼ dropdown menu

6. Hit Save and then Done

To correct the payroll tax payment that was recorded in the wrong account, you can create a journal entry.  I suggest reaching out to an accounting professional if you're not confident with this process.  If you don't have an accountant, we can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out.  We're always happy to help!
