Question

A salary employee is taking 4 weeks of parental leave and we're topping up. Do I simply adjust those weeks to the correct gross amount and let the deductions calculate?

Hi there bonnie-eadle,

It's vital that all your payroll is properly entered into the system so you can pay your employees the right amount. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great tool able to help you pay your employees for the hours they've worked for your company in a pay period. I can point you in the right direction for assistance with setting up your payroll for the employee in question.

In order to know how you should be entering this payroll for your employee who's on parental leave, I recommend speaking to your accountant. As this isn't just regular pay runs for your employee, they'll be able to provide specifics into how this payroll should be entered as well as taxed so that all your payroll info is accurate. You can invite your accountant to your books by going to the My accountant tab. In that section, you can also find an accounting professional who has experience using QuickBooks near you by clicking on the Find a pro to help button.
