Yes, you can re-instate an employee by making it active again in QuickBooks, @debvd6. I'll guide you with the steps below.

If you're using QuickBooks Online:

1. Go to the Payroll menu and then Employees.
2. Use the ▼ dropdown menu and select Inactive Employees.

3. Select the Employee name to be reinstated
4. Scroll down to the Employment Details section and click Edit
5. Change the Status to Active, Hire Date, Pay Schedule and any other information as you feel necessary.
6. Click Save.

If you have QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to the Employees menu and select Employee Center.
  2. Find and open the employee's profile.
  3. Click the Edit icon.
  4. From the Employment Info page and then select the Termination tab.
  5. Remove the Release Date to edit the Hire date.
  6. Click OK to save changes.

Once done, you can pay your employee right away. Here's an article for future reference: Create and run your payroll.
