Can I upload existing payroll to a new company

WE are planning to start over with a new company file. Can I retain the payroll and upload that to newco?

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great product for ensuring your staff are paid effortlessly.  It's important to know the limitations when moving payroll data to a new company file and I'm glad you've asked here, as it will help others who connect with this thread.  I'll be happy to provide the information you need, so you're on the right track with your work!

 

Payroll information cannot be transferred from one file to another.  However, you can export the employee information, so you have everything you need to get started in your new account.  Please keep in mind that payroll  must remain active in order to access the information.  Here's how:

 

1. Open the Settings ⚙ in the top right of your QuickBooks account

2. Under Tools, select Export data

3. Click on the Lists tab

4. Choose Employees and then Export to Excel

5. Open the file and click Enable Editing 

6. Save or Print the file for your records

You're all set with the information needed to set up payroll in your new company file.

 

In addition, you can download other payroll reports by following these steps:

 

1. Open Reports from the left menu

2. Type payroll in the Search field and select the desired report

3. Set the Date range

4. Use the ▼ dropdown menu in the Share field to select Print or Export to Excel
