Can payroll pay method be changed after run payroll? the pay method has been Direct Deposit but it turned out to be Cheque this time. why?

Welcome to Community!  Having direct deposit set up with QuickBooks Online Payroll, is a great way to pay your staff with confidence.  Having the payment method defaulted to paper cheque can be rather concerning.  I would be glad to provide some insight here!


To ensure you've completed the steps for direct deposit, click here.  If this has been completed and you've verified the test transaction, you should be good to go.  However, I also suggest reviewing the mapping of your payroll accounts.  Here's how;

 

1. Open Settings ⚙, then Payroll settings

2. Select the Edit ✎ in the Accounting section 

3. In the Paycheck and payroll tax payments select Edit ✎

4. Use the Bank account ▼ dropdown to choose the preferred account 

5. Hit Save

 

Important things to remember:

  • Ensure you've received the test transaction and verify it in your QuickBooks account
  • Make sure all of your employees banking information has been added correctly
  • Ensure your employee has filled out a Direct Deposit Authorization Form
  • Switch the payment method from paper cheque to direct deposit
