Hello Andrew,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. You've come to the right place to find the answer to this question. I'm excited that you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll to make paying your employees and managing payroll taxes a breeze. I know that finding different ways to organize or sort your employees can be a huge time saver, so let me go over this with you.

After you navigate to the Employees tab of the Payroll menu you'll see that your employees are listed in the Last Name, First Name format. Clicking the Name column allows you to sort your employees by name as opposed to by pay rate, pay method, available vacation, or status. You don't have an option to change this to filter by first name, but what you can do is use the search function just above to type the first name of your employee. This will bring up the employees that fit the search criteria so you can easily find exactly who you're looking for.

I know an option to sort your employee list by first name rather than last name would be a useful tool, so I want to introduce you to the Feedback feature that can be found by accessing the Gear icon. This allows you to let our product development team know which feature and improvements you'd like to see made to our program.

If you have any other questions, just drop a line here. Have a great day.
