Question

Client has granted us access to his QB online file however we are not able to access his payroll module. Is this another step to granting our firm access?

Hello maxine-p,

It's awesome you're connecting and working with your clients using QuickBooks Online Accountant. This version of the program is built with accountants in mind to give you the tools you need to help your client with their business's books. I'll gladly go over this type of user access with you.

When your client adds you to their books as an accountant user, you should have access to all areas of the books, including Payroll. Since you're not able to access this module, it means taking a closer look at things, such as verifying that your client set you up as an accountant, what kind of error messages you're getting, and other details like that. Having these kinds of details will help us get a sense of what's going on to let you know what can be done to fix it.

For your reference, here are a couple of articles about user access and adding an accountant user. Note that accountant users fall under the "company admin" user type.

To have a QuickBooks support team member take a closer look at what's going on with you, here are the options you can use to get in touch.
