I just migrated from Quickbooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. In the desktop version, I was able to manually input the reduced EI premium, but I cannot find where to do this in QB Online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there Kris,

Making sure the correct amount of Employment Insurance is paid to the government is a key part of running your payroll. QuickBooks Online makes it easy to keep track of all your deductions to help with your remittances. I can give you some assistance.

In QuickBooks Online, the payroll system will always calculate deductions and contributions based off the regulations given by the federal and provincial governments. The reason you can't see an option to adjust the rate of calculation is because there isn't a spot to edit it in the employee profile. It is possible for you to make that adjustment to the EI deducted when running payroll.

The process you can follow to run payroll and modify the EI calculated would be to navigate to the Employees tab, then Payroll. Select Run Payroll then enter the number of hours you'd like to pay for as well as any other amounts for additional pay types. Select the Pencil Icon beside the employee you want to change the EI for. Click on Employee taxes to edit the amount deducted from your employee's pay and click on Employer taxes to edit the company contribution. Once completed, click OK and it will bring you back to the page to enter hours. If you need to do this for multiple employees, you can repeat the previous steps by clicking on the Pencil beside their name. Once you've completed the adjustment for all employees, select Preview payroll to proceed to the next step of running payroll.

I hope these steps help you with running payroll and editing deductions and contributions. If you need any further info, feel free to reach out here.
