Hello jillbenson,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online has the required elements to enter the Dental Benefit codes for your employees, in keeping with government guidelines.  However, you will need to edit your employee profiles to reflect the associated code, so it will appear in box 45 on the T4 slips.  In your situation, you will need to make sure your employee is active, so you can complete the required fields.

Follow these steps to make the employee active;

1. Open Payroll, then Employees

2. Use the ▼ dropdown menu to show Inactive employees

3. Select the employee to open their profile

4. Click Edit in the Employment details section

5. Change their status and be sure all other fields are accurate

6. When ready, hit Save

Next, you'll need to enter the Dental Benefit code.  Here's how;

1. Click on Edit, in the Deductions/Contributions section

4. Use the ▼ dropdown menu next to Employer-offered dental benefits, then select the appropriate code;

  • Code 1 - No benefits
  • Code 2 - Benefits to Payee
  • Code 3 - Benefits to Payee, spouse, and dependents
  • Code 4 - Benefits to Payee and their spouse
  • Code 5 - Benefits to Payee and their dependents

5. Hit Done.

You're ready to proceed with creating the T4 slips and summary
