Without being able to get into QB to fix the problem, how do I correct the SIN of an inactive employee, or how can I delete this problem, as the employee left over 6 years ago?

Hi eileen,

Let me help you fix your employee's SIN.

You can only correct it by logging in to QuickBooks. If you're getting an error, this is caused by the new Data Encryption code within QuickBooks Desktop.

To resolve this error:

  1. Download and install updates to your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop and sign in as Admin to your company file.
  3. Click Company at the top menu bar, then select Setup Users and Passwords.
  4. Choose Set Up Users.
  5. Delete and recreate all users in the list except for Admin.
  6. For the admin (which cannot be deleted) edit the name and the password associated with Admin.
  7. Close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop, then sign in as Admin.
  8. Follow the Verify Data/Rebuild Data processes to detect and resolve remaining data damage.
  9. After verifying your data, run rebuild and verify again.
  10. Download the latest payroll tax table.

Next, try to check if your employee's SIN are already showing correctly without any error.

Here's how:

  1. Click Employees at the top menu bar, then select Employee Center.
  2. Double-click the employee's name.
  3. Check the Social Insurance Numbers section.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Repeat as needed.

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'm always here to assist you.

I am using the QuickBooks Enterprise 30 day Free trial and the program will close automatically when I reach Step 2 of "To resolve the error". Is there anyway I can fix it?
