How do I re activate a terminated employee?

We are re hiring an employee and it won't let me add him as a new employee because the SIN number is the same? I can't seem to re activate existing?

Hi userc-cass,

Welcome to the Community. Being able to reactivate a terminated employee is essential to run payroll for them. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great program that gives you the ability to pay your employees and track your remittances. I'd be glad to point in the right direction to reactivate a terminated employee.

In order to reactivate a terminated employee, you'd need to reactivate their profile under the payroll tab. I encourage you to refer to the following steps to reactivate the employee.
 

  1. Click on Payroll on the left navigation menu.
  2. Select the Employees tab.
  3. Choose the drop-down list showing Active employees, select All employees.
  4. Click the inactive employee you'd like to reactivate.
  5. Select the small pencil icon in the Employment section.
  6. In the Status drop-down, click Active.
  7. Select Done.


The employee will be back on the list as an active employee.
