Question

How do you implement the minimum wage increase so it only applies from June 01 when running payroll for the pay period May 20-June 02?

Can you set an effective date for the pay rise (or is the only option to create another hourly pay type at the old rate, apply this to the hours to May 31 and update the default hourly rate to the new minimum?

Hi cara10,

QuickBooks Online Payroll currently doesn't offer the option to set an effective date for increases, and only allows one pay type per employee.  Changes to the pay rates of your staff can be done when the pay period ends.  However, I do understand how beneficial these options would be, to ensure every pay run is accurately calculated.  For this reason, you can submit a suggestion to our Development Team by going to your Settings ⚙, then select Feedback. Customer recommendations are greatly appreciated in assisting us with improving your overall customer experience in QuickBooks Online.

In the interim, here's how to change the employee wage;

1. Open Payroll and navigate to the Employees tab
2. Click on the staff member's name
3. Select Edit in the Pay types section and make the necessary adjustments
4. Hit Done to save the changes.
