Hello annmarie-winger,

Glad to have you join the QuickBooks Community. I'll be happy to steer you in the right direction in regards to box 45 that's associated with employer-offered dental benefits.

QuickBooks simplifies the process of setting up Company-paid contributions, I encourage you to check out this article here as it shows you how to do that. Feel free to ask questions as you browse through the article. For reference, here's a helpful link from the CRA website that provides more info about: Filling out T4s

Let me know if this info helps. I'll be here in case you need additional support. Otherwise, I wish you a great rest of the day!

James, Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is not the same as other employer paid benefits. There is no requirement to put the percentage or dollar amount.

It is required to select a applicable code, that means your software team should develop a new way to select a list of codes from the drop down list. Could you please check with your manager and provide the correct answer for clients.

This is the information in CRA site.

The codes to be in the drop down list:

Code 1 - not eligible to access any dental care insurance

Code 2 - payee only

Code 3 - Payee, spouse and dependent children

Code 4 - Payee and spouse

Code 5 - Payee and their dependent children

How to set up for the new codes?

Read your answers and still not clear.  T4 - Box 45 dental.

Will the correct dental coverage code be something you set up in your individual employee payroll profile or will it just be an option to manually add it to the T4 slip when you run your T4 reports.

Hello MBG6,

Welcome to Community!  The new Dental Benefit and Box 45 on the T4 slips, will automatically be applied.  However, first you'll need to go into your employee profiles and enter the required codes for your employees'.  Here's how;

1. From the left menu, open Payroll, then Employees

2. Select an employee to open their profile

3. Hit Edit in the Deductions & contributions section

4. Scroll down to the Dental benefits access section

5. Choose the T4 dental benefits code from the ▼ dropdown menu

6. Hit Done to save the information

After completing these steps, you'll see box 45 on the T4 slip with the associated code assigned to your employee.

I hope you find this helpful.  We're here for you, should any other questions or concerns come to mind!

Is there no way to edit the box number for all employees at once, or alternately, access all employees at the same time to edit the entry in that box? Are you really making us click through into an employee and then into the deductions and contributions and then into the dental box for each individual employee? Is QBO fundamentally incapable of making an efficient interface?
