Question

I am trying to run payroll that is due today, but when I press 'run payroll' it thinks I am creating another cheque, and using the hours from the previous pay period.

Hello NowWhatAccounts,

I appreciate you taking a moment to describe what you're seeing after you hit the Run payroll button in QuickBooks Online Payroll. With your description, I have a feeling I know what's going on, and I can direct you on how to work through this and process your payroll.

QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great option for working with payroll data alongside the rest of your books and allows you to choose what pay period you're running for, the hours, and so forth. Given that you're seeing the program prompt you to create another cheque, the pay period is what I'd like you to check on here. When you've already run payroll for a given pay period, the program will then prompt you with the option to create an additional cheque when you try to use that same pay period again.

To verify that you're running for the correct pay period, use the Pay Period drop-down menu at the top of the Run Payroll screen. If it is already the correct pay period, that means your payroll has already been run for that timeframe. If you'd like to check on those paycheques to make sure they have the correct information, you can click the X to leave the Run Payroll screen, and then choose Paycheque list just below the Run payroll button. Again, make sure that the module is pulling data for the correct pay period, and then you can click through the paycheques to view their details.
