Hi useral-pirani,

Products and Services in QuickBooks Online is an easy-to-use section that offers you the basics of working with inventory and services for your business. I'm excited to see that your business can benefit from this feature, and I want to make sure that your items are set up correctly. I can help you with switching your item type in this section of the program.

When working with products and services, there are some items that you won't be able to change the type of because of how they track, but this is not one of those instances. In QuickBooks Online, it's possible to change a service item to an inventory or even non-inventory item. It sounds like you may have been trying some things already, but here are the exact steps to make sure you're on the right path.

  1. In the Products and Services section, find the service item you want to change.
  2. Click Edit beside that item.
  3. At the top of the Product/Service information sidebar, select Change type.
  4. Select Inventory or Non-inventory as needed.
  5. Fill out the relevant inventory fields for tracking.
  6. Click Save and close.

Things to pay attention to when you're setting up the product are dates. When setting up an inventory-based product, the program will ask for quantity on hand; if you've already used the item as a service, it'll want the quantity on hand date to be after that most recent transaction. If you'd like to delete any transactions you created with the item incorrectly being set up as a service instead of a product, check out this article: Void or delete transactions in QuickBooks Online

Give that a shot and let me know how it goes. If you're still having trouble, please share more detail about what's going on, and I'll do what I can to help.

Have a great day!
