Hi there Maxine,

Ensuring that your employees are being paid accurately is an important part of running payroll, so I can see how you'd want to check in for help on this before proceeding. QuickBooks Online Payroll is designed to calculate your employee's pay, apply the relevant deductions, as well as account for any additional pay types or adjustments that you've added. Let me help you get to the bottom of this.

When you set up QBO Payroll and begin adding employees, Question 4 handles pay types. You get to choose between Hourly, Salary, or Commission and are required to enter the amount that your employee earns. All pay types in QBO are taxable aside from the Reimbursement pay type. You can learn more about this by checking out our article on Supported pay types and deductions explained.

To be sure that you've set up the correct pay types, navigate to the Employees tab of the Payroll menu and locate an employee. Click on their name and look for Question 4 or use the edit pencil to make changes to the Pay section of their employee profile. If you're sure you've set everything up correctly, the next step is to review the CRA's Payroll Deductions Online Calculator. This'll give you an idea of what your employee should be earning on each cheque so that you can tell whether the amount showing in QBO is correct or not.

If it turns out that things in QBO aren't correct, you'll want to report this to one of our Payroll experts. They'll be able to collect the necessary account details that can't be shared in this public forum so that they can take a look into your account. They'll be able to help you troubleshoot and isolate the issue, or escalate it to the appropriate teams if necessary. Here's how you can reach out:
