QuickBooks Online for Canada has a different way in recording the tips, ryland1.

To record the tips given by clients to your employees, you'd have to set up the Gratuity/Tips liability account first.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Accounting on the left panel.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click the New button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Under Account Type, select Other Current Liabilities.
  5. Under Detail Type, select Other Current Liabilities as well.
  6. Enter Gratuity/Tips in the Name field.
  7. Click Save and close.

Then, record the tips received by your employees using the account you created.

Like this:

  1. Click the Plus icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. Under Suppliers, select Cheque.
  3. Enter the employee's name on the Payee field.
  4. Choose the bank account to pay the tips from.
  5. On the Category Details section, enter the Gratuity/Tips account and the amount.
  6. Click Save and close.
