Question

I switched from Sage50 to QBO. I forgot to enter ytd payroll for employees who only worked the first 3 months of 2020. How do I create T4's for those employees?

Hello ericksondk-gmail,

Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Online! I hope that you've been enjoying the program since your switch, and I know how important it is to make sure you have all the details you need for your employees in the program. QuickBooks Online Payroll's capability to produce T4 information is a handy feature, and I'll go over the options with you so you can decide how to move forward with this.

Knowing that the employees in question only worked for the first three months of 2020 makes a difference, in particular because of boxes 57-60 added to T4s this tax season. If the information you're looking to enter encompasses the entire month of March, filling out T4s manually from the CRA website is the way you'll want to approach this. The new fields on T4s do auto-populate with data from individual pay runs, but they can't parse out the information from year-to-date lump sums. Even if you already had this year-to-date information in the software, you'd be looking at manually working on these forms for those employees anyway.

Since box 57 starts at March 15, if your year-to-date information stops before then, you can consider connecting with the QuickBooks Online support team outside of this community forum to discuss your options. Our back-end team may be able to insert those details for you so that you can generate T4s for those employees. Knowing more about the details of your situation will help us determine if this is possible.
