QBO shows the amount due but the actual payment was .30 short. How can I reflect the short payment?

Hi there Liz_B,

It's important that all your transactions are correctly entered for your books to be well balanced. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great tool able to help you keep track of deductions made on payroll so you can file and pay them with the government. I can point you in the right direction for assistance with this amount that was underpaid.

When entering the payroll tax payment in the Taxes tab, the only option is to enter the full amount. In order to keep track of this amount that is left to pay, you may need to keep track of this amount in another account in the meantime. In order to know the best way to keep track of this amount still due on the taxes in your books, I recommend reaching out to your accountant. Their expertise will be able to guide in the transaction type choice as well as choosing which account to affect so that all is balanced. They'll be able to help assist in rerouting the payment to another account in QuickBooks Online so your bank account balance will be accurate so that you can also make the required adjustments when you do pay off the difference. You can invite your accountant to your QuickBooks Online account by clicking on the My Accountant tab. There's also an option to find an accountant near you in that section by clicking on the Find a Pro to help button.
