Question

I use a third party payroll company. Once I receive the summary how do I set up the deductions such as CPP and EI in quickbooks without the payroll add on?

Hello,

I'd like to help clear this up for you so you can make the most of your QuickBooks Online account. The benefits of using the QuickBooks Payroll service is that your CPP and EI deductions are calculated and recorded for you easily in the account. If you're using a third-party payroll provider and you'd like to record your CPP and EI costs in QuickBooks Online, this is something you'll want to explore with your accountant. There's no specific 'feature' or transaction type designated to record such expenses.

Your accountant may advise you to record this as an expense, a bill, or a journal entry. I'm unable to recommend which option would be best for you in this circumstance, but our ProAdvisor accountants are standing by waiting to help. If you're not already connected to an accountant, you can find one near you by searching here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ca/find-an-accountant/. Depending on their advice, I'd be more than happy to get you back on track.

Let me know what you'd like to do in regards to consulting with your accountant and we can go from there. If you have any other questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Have a great day!
