Question

In Standard Payroll, I accidentally paid an employee off by 1 cent and now quickbooks won't recognize the transaction in banking. How can I fix this in quickbooks? Thanks

Hey chantelleboos,

I'm happy to see that you caught this early. Keeping on track with matching your bank transactions really helps to notice inconsistencies such as this one as you go. Resolving these things quickly can save you a lot of time in the future, and gives you a great start to Since you have Standard Payroll, this is a relatively easy fix.

As the government has specific requirements about payroll, it's especially important for all of the information to be completely accurate. If payroll was run without direct deposit, you can easily edit the most recent pay run. The process of editing a pay cheque in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll is really quick and it's just a few simple steps:

  1. From the left menu, select Employees.
  2. Under the Run payroll button, select Pay cheque list.
  3. Under Net Pay click on the amount for the pay cheque you need to change.
  4. Click Edit at the bottom.
  5. Make the necessary changes then click OK.

You can make changes to most parts of the pay cheque, just expand the appropriate section. If you're not seeing the Edit option, you can also delete a pay cheque from the most recent pay run. Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, select Employees.
  2. Under the Run payroll button, select Pay cheque list.
  3. Select the cheque to delete and click Delete.
  4. When prompted to confirm the action, select Yes or No.

Once you've deleted that employee's cheque, you'll be able to run payroll again with the correct amounts. To learn more about deleting pay cheques, check out this article: How to delete a pay cheque
