Question

In the tax module, it doesn't show the tax amount for last year, just this current quarter. How can I record my payment for last year?

Hi there Matt,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! Accurately recording your sales tax payments using the QuickBooks Online Taxes module ensures proper money movement between your respective tax accounts. It sounds like a payment got missed and you'd like to record it now. Let me give you a hand with that.

Since you haven't specified whether this is a payment towards your Sales Tax or Payroll Tax, I'll give you a hand with both. I'll start off with Sales Tax. When you navigate to the Sales Tax tab of the Taxes module, you'll see a To File section. If you've never filed sales tax in QuickBooks Online, the most recent period will appear by default. By clicking Prepare return for the most recent filing, you'll have the opportunity to change the period at the top. Once you've selected the correct Filing period and entered the appropriate dates, you can mark the return as filed and record your payment.

If it's Payroll Taxes that you're looking to record a payment for, and it's for a previous period, you'll likely need to Enter historical payroll tax payments. Click on the blue hyperlink to check out an article that'll provide you with step-by-step instructions to do so.

If my response hasn't quite hit the mark or you have more detail you'd like to share, please reply to this thread. I'll continue to work with you to get this issue resolved.

Take care and enjoy the weekend!
